The Mikroelektronika MIKROE-1897 LightRanger click board features ST\'s VL6180X IC, a proximity and distance sensor utilizing FlightSense™ Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology. This sensor, comprising an IR emitter, an ambient light sensor, and a range sensor, accurately measures distance by calculating the time photons take to travel to an object and return. In contrast to conventional IR proximity sensors which derive distance by measuring the amount of light reflected, the VL6180X works reliably with all objects, irrespective of their color or reflectivity. It supports I2C communication and operates with a 3.3V or 5V power supply. Ideal for portable touchscreen devices and various distance measurement applications.
